How To Lighten And Brighten Dark Circles Under The Eyes!

If the eyes are the windows to the soul and the most expressed parts of our faces, it is no wonder that when those dark under-eye circles start to show up, we will do almost anything to eliminate them.

A holistic approach is the best way to manage dark under-eye circles. A consistent regimen is the best way to see significant improvement.

What Causes Dark Undereye Circles?

There are a few causes for the look of a dark, bruised area under the eyes, and while often this condition can be hereditary, it can also be caused by;

Lack Of Sleep.

When you don’t sleep enough, the eyes can become tired, dry, and irritated. As you rub them, the delicate undereye area looks wrinkled and lined. A lack of sleep also increases blood and fluid retention around the eyes, leading to those familiar dark shadows.

Most of us struggle to get 7-8 hours of sleep. Whatever the reasons, emphasizing this aspect of our lives and applying a few tips on getting the best sleep can go a long way in keeping the eye area fresh and bright.

Poor Diet.

Eating a diet full of junk foods and not optimizing your nutrition leads to eyes that are dull and diminished. The eyes lack brightness and sparkle.

One of the best ways to start seeing an improvement in the undereye area is to clean up the diet. Avoid processed foods with too much salt and sugar, and load on fresh, hydrating fruits and vegetables.

Dehydration.

Lack of adequate hydration can leave you tired and drawn, with dull under-eyes. Water is your best friend when plumping the skin and looking less tired and drawn. Although you may not need precisely eight glasses a day, the changes in the face you will notice if you concentrate on drinking lots of fresh, cold water is fantastic.

Allergies.

Allergy season isn’t the eye’s best friend. We all know any allergy leaves us with red, swollen, watery, itchy eyes, and dark shadows often appear under the delicate under-eye area. Allergies cause inflammation and compression, making this area look dull and dark.

But whatever the cause, it is possible to improve the under-eye area significantly. While sleeping, eating better, and drinking more water can help you look refreshed and bright-eyed, there are other easy natural ways to alleviate dark circles and get the under-eyes brighter and lighter.

The Best Natural Ways To Get Rid Of Under-eye Circles.

A few natural tips and ingredients can help with dark under-eye circles. Try some of them and see what works for you!

Natural Oils.

Try organic coconut oil for a natural take on removing eye makeup. Oils will smooth away dry, tired-looking skin and improve the look of the entire eye area. They remove dirt and debris without harsh chemicals and moisten the eye and the whole area.

Keep the entire eye area moisturized daily with oils. Some of the best oils for achieving a brightened effect are;

We love these;

Use this luxurious Ayurvedic oil blend to moisturize the eye area. It absorbs quickly to reduce signs of environmental stress for a brighter and more youthful look.

Aloe Vera.

Aloe Vera is well known for its numerous skin benefits. It contains over 200 compounds, is helpful in skin care preparations, and has many soothing, healing, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties.

Aloe Vera is rich in skin-loving vitamins C and E and contains anthraquinone, known for its skin-whitening properties. Aloin, a natural depigmenting agent that naturally whitens and brightens, is also present in Aloe Vera.

Make fresh raw Aloe Vera for the most significant benefit, or buy a good quality Aloe Vera gel. Use Fuller’s clay and Aloe Vera to prepare a brightening face mask recipe.

Make face mask recipes with Aloe Vera, or use it alone to tone, tighten, and brighten the face and eye area.

We use this for cooling under eye and skin treatment: Pure Aloe Vera Treatment with Organic Coconut, Olive Oil, and Vitamin E.

This skin treatment soothes, hydrates, and cools, making the skin calm, nurtured, and healthy-looking.

Coffee Bean Oil.

Coffee is phytonutrient-rich and an abundant source of antioxidants with healthy skin rejuvenating properties. It protects the skin from UV damage, which slows the damage from photoaging, such as lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and dullness.

Try using drops of Coffee bean oil in your face moisturizers or eye creams, or look for beauty products with this ingredient. Try an anti-aging face mask recipe using coffee bean oil.

Caffeine also has a minor, temporary vasoconstrictor effect, where blood vessels are constricted, making it beneficial for relieving dark circles under the eye.

However, the main vascular result is vasodilation, which opens blood vessels. An increased blood flow to the skin stimulates collagen production and transports healing nutrients to this area.

We love this;

Hydrosols.

Soaking a cold compress in an ice-cold Hydrosol and placing it on the eye area while lying down can tremendously ease puffy, dark under-eyes. Keep hydrosols in the fridge, which are flower waters created by making essential oils.

Some of the best hydrosols for lightening the undereye area are Chamomile and Rose.

Chamomile.

Chamomile water is a mild, gentle hydrosol acquired from the steam distillation process of making chamomile essential oil. The vast amount of water this takes leaves water that still retains the beneficial plant properties of the flowers.

Chamomile hydrosol is a soothing, mild astringent water beneficial for sensitive, dry skin and known for its gentle brightening effect.

If your skin suffers from hyperpigmentation, Chamomile water is a gentle, soothing choice that, when used regularly, can help brighten and tone the complexion.

For an eye cream containing Chamomile, we love this;

Rosewater.

Rosewater has anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and antiseptic properties that are soothing, hydrating, brightening, cleansing, and toning to the skin.

Rosewater is a centuries-old beauty formulation for improving the skin’s quality, luminosity, and softness. It is a by-product of the steam distillation process that produces essential rose oil. This process is still a traditional method in many parts of the world.

Look for a good quality Rosewater as a daily brightening skin tonic that can help to support the delicate undereye area.

Green Tea.

Tea is abundant in polyphenols, carotenoids, and flavonoids and contains vitamins C and E. Although drinking tea, especially Green Tea, has significant health benefits, you may wonder why you keep seeing it as a Green Beauty ingredient in many natural skincare brands.

Tea contains some powerful and protective phytochemicals and antioxidants. It is anti-aging and anti-inflammatory.

Look out for tea in clean beauty products for its incredible ability to boost cell turnover, prevent cell damage, nourish with antioxidants, and calm with anti-inflammatories. Tea also has UV protective elements and anti-microbial benefits, keeping skin clear and glowing.

The properties of Match Green Tea enhance other skincare ingredients to deliver anti-aging, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial benefits. Tea also has researched photoaging effects, protecting skin and eyes from UV rays, and keeping skin clear and bright.

Turmeric has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Research has shown significant benefits for skin brightening and easing lines and wrinkles. Using Turmeric in DIY beauty recipes adds a powerful, nourishing ingredient that can help soften and illuminate your skin for a bright, glowing complexion.

Face Massage.

Gentle face massages are among the best ways to care for the face and eye area. You can do this by hand or with one of the many face massage tools available. Quartz rollers and face tools like Gua Sha are popular; for more information, read here. Face Massages help to;

  • Increase the circulation, which enhances the color and vibrancy of the skin.
  • Stimulate collagen production for anti-aging benefits.
  • Reduce puffiness in the face and eye area, restoring the face’s natural shape.
  • Relax tension, smoothing face muscles for a more relaxed look.
  • Drain Lymph nodes to get rid of excess fluid build-up.
  • Tone Face muscle so the overall look of the face is enhanced.

Essential Oils.

Essential oils have fantastic plant properties, and many have incredible brightening effects. Start small with essential oils by adding drops into face and eye creams or looking for them in natural beauty products.

If you want essential oils, educate yourself on their use and the dilution amounts. Read Essential Oil Safety by Robert Tisserand to delve into the subject and use these oils safely.

Consider these oils for helping the under-eye;

Make sure to dilute essential oils properly for skin care, massage around the outside of the eye, and do not go too close to the eye itself.

Manage dark under-eye circles with these various natural approaches; look after this delicate area, take good care of yourself, and manage stress levels. Try some of these simple strategies, add a smudge of a natural concealer, and you’ll be good to go!
