If you are struggling with thinning or shedding hair or have issues with unruly, frizzy, or curly hair, you may have come across Ojon oil. This rich, smoky, chocolatey-scented oil is incredible for restoring health, strength, and regrowth on damaged, struggling hair.
Ojon Oil comes from the Ojon Palm Tree, Elaeis Oleifera, which is native to the rain forests in Central and South America. Although this oil has been in use for centuries by the Miskito Indians, who are known as The Tawira, or people of beautiful hair, it took an unusual story to see the product reach mainstream America.
If you have ever used Ojon Oil on your hair, you will have experienced the profound benefits this oil gives to the hair. Batana and Ojon Oils are some of the best oils for Hair and Scalp; they come from the same Palm but are processed differently; essentially, they are the same oil. You will also see this oil called Caiaue oil or Dende Bravo oil.
What Are The Benefits Of Ojon And Batana Oils?
These noteworthy oils penetrate the hair shaft right into the central cortex of the hair, delivering essential lipids that mimic the lipids of the hair depleted from heat styling, color, environmental damage, and general wear and tear.
Batana and Ojon oils are highly absorbent; they don’t weigh the hair down but instead fortify it from the inside out to give highly supple, shiny, and strong hair resilient to breakage. If hair is dehydrated and damaged, these oils absorb entirely into the hair, restoring the look, feel, and strength of the hair.
These are nutrient-dense oils whose beneficial properties include the following;
- Anti-Oxidant Rich
- High Vitamin A
- Mimics Hair Keratin
- Rich in Amino Acid
- Rich in Oleic and Linoleic Acid
- Beta Carotene over 50%
- Alph Carotene over 40%
While hair saturated in other oils remains oily, Batana and Ojon will, over time, absorb entirely. If you leave it in for a few days, you may notice it has disappeared into the hair. This is especially beneficial for dry, curly hair, restoring it to silky curls. These oils are also easy to wash out without leaving an oily residue.
These are rare oils you don’t see everywhere; the trees only produce one liter of fatty oil from one harvest, but this is Mother Nature’s finest and well worth seeking.
What Are The Differences Between Batana And Ojon Oils?
Batana and Ojon oils are not different in that they have the same remarkable properties and benefits in maintaining, restoring, and renewing hair health. The oil comes from the same palm tree; the differences between the two oils come from the processing method.
Batana Oil comes from cooking and boiling the nuts, which produces a thick, brown, almost solid oil with a smoky tobacco smell.
Ojon oil is cold-pressed from the nut kernel. It produces a thick orange/caramel color oil, which is liquid. This oil is lighter in scent, though it thickens and becomes cloudy in cooler temperatures due to the natural unfiltered waxes.
What Happened To Ojon?
Dennis Simioni founded Ojon after his wife’s grandmother gave her a baby jar of a rich, brown solid oil in a baby jar, that she had bought on the streets of Honduras. It sat in their bathroom for over two years before Silvana, Dennis’s wife, ran out of conditioner.
Remembering the baby jar of oil, she decided to try it. So amazed were they by the results of just that one use that Dennis decided to go to Honduras to find this mystery oil buried deep in the Amazon Rain Forest.
The rest is history; Ojon was a massive success, developing into a successful product line sold on QVC. It was eventually sold to Estee Lauder and later discontinued.
Where Can You Find Ojon And Batana Oils?
Are you looking for Ojon? Thankfully, although this oil is still not widely used in Western countries, it can still be found. There are not many places to get it, and unless it is a brand you can trust, I would be careful of the Batana oil sold across the internet.
I tracked down both Ojon and Batana, which I trust and use, and am thrilled that it is still possible to find what was once hailed as a cult beauty product when Dennis first brought it to the marketplace.

How Can You Use Ojon And Batana Oils?
Use these hair oils as you would any other. Do a scalp massage once or twice a week, leave in the hair overnight, or wash off after 20 minutes to one hour.
Melt the oils and add a small amount to your shampoos or conditioners; they work very well added to hair masks, either homemade or store-bought.
Apply to fly away hairs around the hairline or to the ends of the hair to prevent split ends.
Ojon and Batana oils are incredible hair oils; they are also effective as skin oils, making them highly versatile. Try these if you have hair issues and are not seeing results with other oils.
