Hyperpigmentation, or Melasma, is a condition that can be due to exposure to UV light and environmental or hormonal factors. Although treating your skin kindly and gently with natural ingredients can work wonders, always consult a dermatologist or doctor for medical advice if you are concerned about any unusual dark spots or patches on your skin.
Always apply a natural mineral sunscreen daily to protect your skin from sun damage. We love clean formulations like Kinship Self Reflect SPF 32 for blemish/acne-prone skin and Cotz Flawless Complexion Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50.
The Skin Brightening Benefits Of Fullers Earth.
Fullers Earth, the whitening clay, is a well-known treatment for hyperpigmentation, helping fade and balance the skin’s dark spots and patches.
Fullers Earth can be made into a simple clay mask with other targeted natural ingredients to help exfoliate, brighten, and renew the skin, fading out some discolorations for a more even skin tone.
Fullers Earth consists of clay minerals such as bentonite, attapulgite, and kaolinite. It makes a great clarifier and cleanser that exfoliates the skin, causing renewed skin cells. You can buy Fuller’s Earth as an active and inactive ingredient in many cosmetic products.
Originally, Fullers Clay was a common ingredient to remove dirt and oil from sheep wool. It left the clothes whitened and became known as a whitening clay famous for removing impurities from the skin and hair and brightening the complexion.
Fuller’s Earth comes mainly from The USA, Japan, Mexico, and England.

Ingredients used;
- Chamomile water is a mild, gentle hydrosol acquired from the steam distillation process of making chamomile essential oil. The vast amount of water this takes leaves water that still retains the beneficial plant properties of the flowers.
Chamomile hydrosol is a soothing, mild astringent water beneficial for sensitive, dry skin and is known for its gentle brightening effect.
If your skin suffers from hyperpigmentation, Chamomile water is a gentle, soothing choice that can help brighten and tone the complexion when used regularly.
Aloe Vera.
Aloe Vera is well known for its numerous skin benefits. It contains over 200 compounds, is helpful in skin care preparations, and has many soothing, healing, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties.
Aloe Vera is rich in skin-loving vitamins C and E and contains anthraquinone, known for its skin-whitening properties. Aloin, a natural depigmenting agent that naturally whitens and brightens, is also present in Aloe Vera.
Use fresh raw Aloe Vera for the most significant benefit, or buy pure, organic gel where possible.
You can also make Aloe vera gel for other great face mask ideas!
Carrot Seed Oil.
Carrot seed oil is an antioxidant-rich oil in many skin care formulations. It has many beneficial properties for sun-damaged skin and can help with wrinkles, fine lines, dry skin, and dark spots and patches. It is well known for giving the skin a healthy glow!
Rich in skin-loving vitamins A and E and beta carotenes, carrot seed oil is a natural SPF with skin-renewing and regenerating properties that enhance skin cell turnover, restore and revitalize the skin, and diminish hyperpigmentation.
Umbellicome, in carrot seed oil, comes from the Umbelliferae family of plants that includes carrots, coriander, and garden angelica.
Umbelliferone, also known as 7-hydroxycoumarin, is sun-protective and has anti-oxidant properties that ward off sun damage in the form of hyperpigmentation. Umbelliferone absorbs UVB light strongly at several wavelengths, resulting in many sunscreen preparations.
Buy Carrot seed oil for its sun-protective benefits, but always wear an excellent natural sunblock. Read more about how to get glowing skin with Carrot seed oil here!
Sea Buckthorn.
Sea Buckthorn oil comes from the reddish-orange Sea Buckthorn plants. It is a relatively thick and dense oil, coming from both the seeds and the pulp of the Sea Buckthorn fruit.
There are two versions of this oil that you can use. The seed oil of Sea Buckthorn is generally a paler, more serum-like oil, but both contain high beta-carotene amounts. Use the seed oil as you would any facial serum; however, Sea Buckthorn oil is excellent for making masks or other treatments you will wash off.
The deep orange color of Sea Buckthorn oil gives the skin a healthy glow. It doesn’t discolor the skin and is easy to wash off. However, it can stain clothing or bedding, so mixing it with other oils, moisturizers, or creams is best.
The Sea Buckthorn Oils are high in carotenes, tocopherols, and phytosterols. Rich in fatty acids, omega 3,6 and 7, and vitamins C, B1, B2, and K.
The beneficial nutrients in Sea Buckthorn oil promote cell rejuvenation and assist in anti-aging benefits, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots. The high amount of vitamin C, approximately 12 times more than oranges, helps to lighten and brighten darkened skin patches.
Beta carotene is a highly effective treatment for Melasma[hyperpigmentation], and research shows its regular use on the skin can reverse this almost entirely.
Sea Buckthorn oil contains 70% linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, which research indicates can lighten dark spots and age spots on the skin due to sun damage.
Gallocatechins, an anti-oxidant effective in combatting excess melanin in the skin, and palmitoleic acid, which inhibits melanogenesis, are also present in Sea Buckthorn oil.
Buy Sea Buckthorn oil to promote skin elasticity for firmer, more glowing, and smoother skin.
Bonus: This is another oil with significant hair smoothing and rejuvenating properties for thick, complete, and healthy hair.
Refrigerate this oil after use; it tends to be unstable and more quickly than other oils. Keep that in mind when looking at what size bottle to buy.
Although many oils have photoprotective properties, they are not an alternative to sunscreen. Always protect your skin correctly with a natural, mineral sunscreen like this one.
